Vic (a small city of Barcelona region).
Reaction to the arrests of the CDRs accused of terrorism:
A man addresses hundreds of people.
Serious, pompous voice of solemnity goes into exaltation: “500 armed men have entered the Principality of Catalonia and have landed at the doors of our children’s homes and taken them away. Today, a few days ago of the 305 years of 1714. Illusive these Castilians to think that we are their slaves! We are not slaves of anyone.
This land is ours. If you don’t like it, go. ” Applause. Cheers. More applause “Long live the earth!” Long live!
The congregants shout excitedly. Men and women. Older and younger. Perfect specimens of normal people.
Who encourages them is a cooperating doctor in several NGOs.
His speech is predictable.
Biased use of history, recreation of an ongoing grievance, exaltation of the “ours”, identification of the enemy (the “Castilians”) and, finally, the eternal, hostile and exclusive “If you do not like it, go” .
How beautiful it was to think that it could be different! That nationalist fanaticism would not have such a normal face.
