Constitution forbids nationalist. Torra, who has met with MPs of the Assembly of Portugal during his visit to the country, thanked these MPs for their “solidarity with Catalonia” and their “respect for the right to determination”, but he has obviated that Portugal prohibits the existence of regionalist parties.
The Portuguese Constitution of 1976 includes, in its article 311.2, the prohibition of constituting parties that, “by their designation or programmatic objectives, have a regional nature or scope”. This fact has not prevented Torra from offering a conference on the right of self-determination of Catalonia this afternoon in Lisbon.
