The association intends to found a party that adds together with others such as Units per Avançar, with whom they have recorded “high degree of coincidence” in the socioeconomic program
The Poblet group has approved promoting the creation of a moderate “new electoral option” catalanist and sovereignist face to the next elections to the Catalan Parliament. This has been decided this Saturday at an internal assembly at the Gallery hotel in Barcelona.
The most likely, as explained by businessman Toni Garrell, his spokesman, is that a new political party is formed. That scenario will be elucidated in the next three weeks or in a month. For now, no dates have been marked on the calendar nor have the issues of leadership been addressed.
However, the association does not close the door, if circumstances arise, to “take advantage” of an existing structure. Sources consulted have pointed out that in the next few days we will work on the organic issue and have stressed that the momentum of the group of young people, between 25 and 35 years old, who has studied the feasibility of founding a new training or support any of the existing ones. Therefore, almost certainly, there will be a new political force that in any case will add to the others.
In that sense, Garrell has also hinted at the possibility of a coalition with other formations. There comes into play Units per Avançar, the heiress formation of Unió Democràtica de Catalunya (UDC). In recent weeks there have been conversations between Ramon Espadaler’s cadres and the Poblet group and it has been found that there is “a high degree of coincidence” in the socioeconomic program. Now that the association El País de Demà, which is what it is formally called, has decided to take a step forward, that dialogue will be more concrete.
In the document of conclusions validated today, Catalanists, sovereignists and nationalists who “share the commitment to a prosperous, fair, inclusive and modern Catalonia” are challenged with the “maximum ambition to serve the country and its people”. In the appearance Garrell has pointed out that the party will not be an end in itself, but will be at the service of citizens, something that has underlined as a distinctive fact. It has also been insisted that they do not intend to evoke past projects but to look to the future.
Apart from the creation of a new formation, the association will continue its journey “with a long-term focus” and dynamically. It will be a kind of think tank that accompanies the political project. In addition, it is expected that in the coming weeks the expansion of the Poblet group will be reinforced throughout the Catalan territory and there have already been some meetings in recent weeks with that vocation. This month, without going any further, there will be another one in the Cercle d’Economia.
In the Gallery meeting were present among others JxCat ex-senator and PDECat ex-leader Marta Pascal, former deputy Jordi Xuclà, ex-regional conseller Lluís Recoder or former senior lawyer of the Parlament Antoni Bayona, who is still in the legal services of the Catalan Chamber . The former convergent deputy Carles Campuzano has also participated in the debates of the association.
