The Council of Ministers this Tuesday will approve the pardons for the independence prisoners. It will therefore be just after the act that will be held tomorrow at the Liceu in Barcelona by President Pedro Sánchez. This is what the newspaper El País says today. He will not wait, then, as had been said, for Tuesday the 29th.

Thus, Moncloa would already have the files ready, of almost thirty pages for each prisoner, and that the argument will be basically political. They will emphasize the public utility of pardons, which will be justified to promote coexistence in Catalonia.

The pardons will be partial, that is to say, that only the prison sentence that remains to be served will be forgiven and that the disqualification from public office will remain in force. And also that they will be reversible pardons, therefore they can be annulled if the prisoners commit a crime again.

Much weight will be given to Oriol Junqueras’ letter, in which he criticized himself and denied the unilateral way. A letter that he would have agreed with Moncloa, according to the newspaper. Esquerra and the Spanish government reportedly agreed on the details at the highest level. At the time of justifying the pardons, the inauguration speech of Pere Aragonés will also be used, in which he was betting on a referendum agreed with the State.

Sánchez will appear in Congress on June 30 to report on the pardons. Initially the appearance was scheduled for the first week of July, but Moncloa has advanced it.
