Antoni Trilla sinks the Catalan Government. The epidemiologist and head of Preventive Medicine at Hospital Clínic Barcelona, also an adviser to the Spanish executive and the Generalitat against the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, has admitted that “the outbreak containment system is not sufficiently prepared” in Catalonia.

Trilla has verbalized it in an interview in Catalunya Ràdio, in which he has detected various deficiencies that are hampering the response capacity of the autonomous Administration against the positive peaks in Barcelona and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and community contagion in Lleida. For now, the outbreak detection system “is not yet ready enough to deal with them.” For this reason, “clarity and leadership” is needed in the Catalan Government.

“The result is not optimal”

The member of the expert group that advised Premier Quim Torra during the pandemic, now a member of the coronavirus technical committee of the Ministry of Health, has admitted that the region “has not been coordinated well or things have not been done well enough and the result is not optimal. ” There is more, the result is “worrying”, so he makes an “appeal to a joint work with good leadership”.

From the point of view of Antoni Trilla, a well-considered expert in the field of epidemiology, “a good expert, a small team, are needed with some leadership that are able to put things in order and help us all.” This is a reference to the vacancy of regional Public Health department, in which no one has appeared since Joan Guix slammed the door in late May. This expert replacing the post should “provide a good response” that the entire sector “would respect”.

Alert in Barcelona, L’Hospitalet and Lleida

The epidemiologist has thus asked for the appointment of a brain in the fight against the coronavirus on the same day that the Health Department suffered its third resignation in months. Josep Ramon Morera, head of the technical cabinet of the department that pilots Alba Vergés (ERC), has left his post for “personal” reasons. His departure follows that of Guix himself, yes, but also that of César Velasco Muñoz, director of the Agency for Quality and Health Assessment (AQuAS).

Likewise, the criticism of Trilla has taken place when Lleida and six other municipalities around the provincial capital remain in semi-reclusion from Wednesday at four in the afternoon for community contagion of coronavirus. Catalan Government has also applied restrictions in three neighborhoods of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat due to the increase in positives. Meanwhile, in Barcelona, infections have tripled to the point that its mayor, Ada Colau, offered municipal staff to act as trackers of positive contacts, given the failure of the monitoring program.
