The Catalan Government has repeatedly demanded that the Spanish Executive apply total confinement since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, but now it raises the possibility that children can go out here 8-10 days. The President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, described as “reckless” that total confinement be lifted after the Easter holidays.
“It is irresponsible and reckless, whoever takes this responsibility must be aware. We are convinced that the conditions for a return to normality do not exist. It is irresponsible ”, he assured on April 12. Also the spokeswoman of the Govern, Mertixell Budó, affirmed during the state of alarm that total confinement is the way “to stop the spread of the virus”.
The Minister of Health, Alba Vergés, on the other hand, has proposed this Friday -five days after Torra’s statements- that children can be released soon because “the peak of maximum pressure on the health system has been exceeded.”
Asked by TV3 about “what sense is there in defending total confinement if they already consider the full peak of the pandemic as past and are also demanding measures of unconfinement”, Vergés replied that “it makes perfect sense”. The health regional minister has argued that “it makes no sense” to seek confinement “the same everywhere when the pandemic is not the same.”
The Minister of Health, in any case, has pointed out that the measures of unconfinement have been proposed within ten days, because “the evolution is positive, but the risk of regrowth is very high.” “We have to compensate one thing with the other,” said Vergés.
