The Audiovisual Council of Catalonia reminds the Catalan regional channel of its mission to be a “public service” and guarantee “political pluralism”
SEPTEMBER 16, 2021
The Consell de l’Audiovisual de Catalunya, after a plenary session on documentaries and report programs on the relations between Catalonia and Spain broadcast on TV-3, has reached an agreement in which “an informative imbalance” is verified in these spaces at the not offering “different points of view” or “different positions of Catalan society”. The agreement has gone ahead with two votes in favor (those of the directors appointed at the proposal of the PSC and the PP, Carme Figueres and Daniel Sirera) and with the vote against its president, Roger Loppacher.
Thus, the CAC urges TV-3 to fulfill its “public service mission” and to “correct, with the maximum possible diligence, the situation of imbalance generated” that has caused the complaint of non-independence sectors. To do this, they should issue their own production, co-production or purchase of broadcasting rights for documentaries or reports that guarantee “political pluralism” in which other positions would be included.
The agreement comes after the breach of the Agreement of the CAC 27/2018, of March 7, in which TV-3 was urged that the author’s documentaries or thesis that it broadcasts respond to more than one point of view and offer the different positions of Catalan society. In July 2020 Federalistes d’Esquerres filed a complaint requesting the intervention of the CAC due to TV-3’s “factual refusal” to broadcast the documentary ‘Federal’, produced and made by Minimal Films and directed by the filmmaker Albert Solé, who finally saw the light in chain 33.
