The Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Spain, Dimitry Sokolov
The Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Spain, Dimitry Sokolov, has assured that Russia does not support either the Catalan independence project or the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont. In an interview in El Mundo, Sokolov has denied the veracity of the information published by The New York Times and has assured that we “support” the State.
“Russia is in favor of the territorial integrity of Spain and that its internal problems are resolved according to its laws”, assured the minister counselor of the embassy, who added that Puigdemont “is not in Russia, but in Belgium.” Sokolov has affirmed that the information that has been published in this regard “is a lie”, and has pointed out that “in general, a lot of information that is published in Spain about Russia is”.
The Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy recalled the “outrage” of the press in Spain when the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, told the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell (PSOE), that the case of the Prisoners of the ‘procés’ is an example of “politically motivated judicial decisions”, and has assured that Russia demanded respect for the decisions of the country’s justice, in the same way that Spain does. “Journalists have to tell the truth,” Sokolov remarked.
