Rally of health workers this Wednesday April 29 before the Mataró Hospital Newsroom

Catalan health workers have rallied this Wednesday afternoon on the entrances to their hospitals to demand that they receive the 5% of the salary that was taken from them in 2010, as a result of budget cuts in the social areas applied by the Artur Más government. The CUP presented an amendment to the budgets of the Generalitat of 2020 demanding the recovery of these wages but was defeated by the contrary votes of JxCAT and ERC.

The Minister of Digital Policies and Administration, Jordi Puigneró, will propose this Thursday, April 30, an extraordinary remuneration for the health workers and other professionals who are facing the Covid-19. The CATAC-IAC union criticizes what it considers a small pay and affirms in a statement that “we do not want alms, we want to be paid what is ours, our salary, which we earn every day with sweat and perseverance”.

One of the gatherings has taken place at the gates of the Mataró Hospital. In the call for this rally, it was calculated that in the last ten years, health workers have lost 30% of their purchasing power. “We want our work and dedication to be recognized at once, that our salaries contemplate this vocation, which is to help and take care of others, even if our health is compromised in it. We want whoever has to take care of us to take it and not exposes us as they have done for lack of protection and means”, says the statement that ends by saying “we are not heroes, we do not want applause to cover the blame. We want to be recognized for what we are, a pillar of our society that we must ensure so it doesn’t fall. “
