Among the many ruptures that independence has caused is that of the Catalanists, which has broken up Catalan society. Today it is divided electorally among those Catalanists who do not consider that their claim about Catalonia must lead to the trauma of breaking with Spain, and supporters of independence. A good part of this last group observes with frustration, fatigue and disenchantment that the chosen path is even worse after a lost decade and the inability to govern that the Generalitat shows.

Intellectuals, businessmen, jurists and economists held a meeting on Monday in which they called for the regrouping of non-independentist Catalanism to create a “single electoral option” center.

In an event held in the Circle of Economy of Barcelona, one of the promoters of the manifesto “A Call to Catalan society”, Josep Miró i Ardèvol, diagnosed the strengths of independentism and demanded to confront it with a story that should shield self-government and “recover the dignity of our institutions and the unity of all people. ” “We need a strong Catalanism, of social penetration, that is credible as a form of government and capable of intervening in Spanish politics,” he said before 150 people.

The promoters discarded that this meeting of self-proclaimed independents became a political party, but among the public there were several members of Lliga Democràtica, Lliures, Units per Avançar, El País de Demà and the PSC.

In fact, Montserrat Nebrera, a member of Lliures, said that with these meetings “is not enough” because there are Catalan elections around the corner. “What political catalanism wants is to give an alternative of Catalan obedience participating in the Spanish Government but with Catalan autorship, defined by Catalan identity,” she said, referring to the Lliga although without mentioning it. “We have to say one clear thing: that we must abandon ambiguity, that there is no ambiguity, that we can come from different paths, but be one in institutional loyalty. If we do not share this idea, nobody will believe us,” riveted.

Another of the interventions indicated that Units per Avançar should separate from the PSC “and be added” to the rest of the formations that are being unified. “We must stand together in the elections and agree among all” he defended.

“The recovery of stability and good governance in Catalonia and Spain requires the creation of a broad and strong electoral option, anchored in Catalanism, that acts within the framework of the Constitution within the general Spanish policy and considering its priority to address the problems and challenges that affect us from the self-government,” says the text and adds that “the pattern of action should be the law as a framework, the policy as a task and the word as an instrument. “

Among the signatories of the manifesto is the former president of the Circle of Economy, Carlos Cuatrecasas; the economist and former general manager of the entity, Jordi Alberich; the former magistrate of the Constitutional Court and former dean of the Bar Association, Eugeni Gay; the former director of Catalunya Ràdio and former member of Unió, Fèlix Riera; and the former Secretary of State for the Economy, Alfredo Pastor; among others.

The construction of an alternative government to independentism

Josep Miró i Ardèvol

Among the many ruptures that independence has caused is that of the Catalanists, which has broken up Catalan society. Today it is divided electorally among those Catalanists who do not consider that their claim about Catalonia must lead to the trauma of breaking with Spain, and supporters of independence. A good part of this last group observes with frustration, fatigue and disenchantment that the chosen path is even worse after a lost decade and the inability to govern that the Generalitat shows. They do not renounce the horizon of the sense of independence, but consider that the priority is to exercise self-government within the framework of the Constitution.

It is necessary to recompose the political and electoral unity between both Catalanists, because there is a basic coincidence over any other division: now it is time to govern well, to recover the prestige and the lost influence in Spain and Europe.

There are many citizens convinced that life is the deepening of self-government within the framework of the Spanish Constitution and the European Union, and that the continuing struggle over a non-existent republic is absurd, a fiction that in no way helps to address the needs and crisis we live.

It has only generated some professionals of the independence, who live to extend a situation that lacks all rationality and future, because it lives outside reality.

So on the sidelines that, despite controlling the government for years, they have led the action of the Generalitat and the Parliament to levels of disability and destruction that Catalan people had never lived.

Just consult the latest CEO survey to verify that not only more than 60 percent of the population believes that the Catalan government “Generalitat” does not know how to solve the problems (in reality it does not even try, because it is engaged in fratricidal struggles), but at the same time less than two percent believe they do know how to do it.

Despite this, there is an irreducible core: between 15 and 20 percent systematically assess for each issue that the response of the Generalitat deserves a grade of 10. On this group with such a skewed view of the facts there is little to do , but, towards the rest, the majority of the pro-independentist movement, which embraces it because it considers that it is the best for Catalonia, must be explained, and work on how Catalonia should be built today, from now on without further delay, addressing the needs and challenges, and responding to Catalan projects and initiatives.

And this answer can only be given by all Catalans together in a single electoral option, which groups both those who come from the idea of national plenitude and those who reaffirm their Catalan living, working and participating in Spanish reality.

This is possible without giving up anything through a single electoral option based on a common program for 4 or 8 years, based on the response to everything we need from the important capacities of self-government, and the negotiating weight of Catalonia in the current Spanish context. With Recovering at the same time and this time for all the idea of being a single people, and recovering the recognition and dignity of our historical government institutions. Only the concept of Catalanism means the ability to live well every day among us even though we politically think differently, because we all agree on the same goal of building a better country, but not for an unknown future, but starting to move forward, step by step, stone by stone, right from now.

All this is possible if Units per Avançar, the people from the Poblet group and their association Catalunya 2030, the Lliga and Lliures set up an alternative government in the form of a single electoral option. And if they are supported by the Catalan society organized around the group of independents, those who do not wish to be part of a political militancy, but consider it necessary and urgent to change the current situation.

All this defines the three conditions necessary for success.

The first, the union as a single electoral option around a common program of all Catalan forces.

Second, a firm and clear presence of Catalanism that has gone through the experience of the pro-independentist camp.

Third, which constitutes the condition of sufficiency, the mobilization and organization of the independent electorate. The one who, not wanting to join any political party, is willing to contribute to a new situation, based on the scenario that promotes Catalanism, and makes its position effective, from the fact of being personally independent, and at the same time support the political action, through the meeting of the independents.
