From the first minute the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, sided with the members of the Tactical Response Team (ERT) of the Defense Committees of the Republic (CDR) who entered prison on Thursday, after testifying before the judge of the National Court Manuel García-Castellón. This Saturday it has been known that one of them met him, as confirmed by EL PERIÓDICO research sources. The cause is kept under summary secret to be able to analyze in detail the abundant computer material intervened, which prevents knowing more details of the meeting, such as its scope and content.

In addition to this direct contact, the name of Torra was also heard in the declaration room of the National Court of lips of one of the seven detainees on the 23rd that ended up being taken to the Madrid prison of Soto del Real. Ferran Jolis admitted to the magistrate that he had been told that the president of the Generalitat was aware of the progressive boycott actions planned by the group in which he was placed and that according to judge’s car that sent him to prison constitutes a terrorist organization . Only he and Jordi Ros, assisted by public lawyers, admitted that they had material to make explosives and “make noise.”

Among this support work, according to this accused, Torra would have promised to facilitate their entry into the Parliament to occupy it for a few days between October 1, the second anniversary of the illegal referendum, and the moment in which the sentence of the ‘procés’, planned in the first fortnight.

Although Judge García-Castellón initiated the investigation almost two years ago, which has allowed monitoring and recording of ERT members, the references to Torra that have appeared in the case are not, at least for now, sufficient to initiate a an investigation against him, a circumstance that, in addition, would require the referral of the proceedings to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), due to his parliamentary immunity. From the Department of the Presidency of the Generalitat they do not give “credibility” to this information, while the Government has declined to make assessments. According to Efe, a spokeswoman has stressed that the Department of the Presidency does not comment on “such information, especially if it comes from leaks.”

Open investigation

Judge Manuel García-Castellón, continues with the investigations and new arrests may occur, ordered Thursday the unconditional prison for detainees for crimes of belonging to a terrorist organization, conspiracy to wreak havoc and possession of explosives. For the judge, those in jail are “especially active members of the ERT”, a “more radical, clandestine and committed” sector of the Defense Committees of the Republic (CDR). He considers that they were in charge of “planning, development and implementation of violent actions” to “achieve the materialization of the Catalan Republic by any means, including violent ones”. Among the plans attributed to them by the researchers is to cut certain points of the AP-7 motorway and attack electrical and telecommunications towers.

The prison car framed these practices “within the global strategy of the most combative radical independence movement.” He maintains that the organization of which they are a part was “hierarchical” and has “sufficient capacity to carry out tactics and maneuvers with a high level of professionalization.”
