Meritxell Serret left Brussels with the utmost secrecy. Nobody in the Catalan delegation of the Generalitat in the UE capital knew of her transfer to Madrid to appear before the Supreme Court. For two days he had not been to the delegation offices alleging slight health problems, but without this causing her to change her agenda. Neither those closest to the delegation, nor her trusted personnel knew of her intentions.
Until yesterday, she even kept her meeting schedule supposedly to avoid arousing suspicion. This is the case of meetings that she had scheduled yesterday afternoon in the delegation, to which she did not attend without indicating any reason either a posteriori.
The surprise has been absolute among the workers of the delegation who have learned from the media that she had appeared before the Supreme Court. Mertixell Serret was the delegate of the Generalitat until this week, a mandate that ends when she takes possession of her act as a deputy in parliament.
Yesterday afternoon she did not attend meetings claiming to be ill
Serret was appointed delegate of the Generalitat in Brussels in June 2018, when she had already been in Belgium for several months, where she moved together with Carles Puigdemont, Toni Comín and Lluís Puig to avoid the arrest warrants that were to be issued against them. At the head of the delegation, she has had the difficult task of managing relations with the European institutions in a period of high tension due to the political situation in Catalonia.
The former regional minister of Agriculture was prosecuted for the crimes of embezzlement of public funds and disobedience. However, since the judgment of October 14, 2019, no Euro order has been issued against her. No concrete payments related to the 1-O referendum are attributed to her department and the defendants who were tried in the same situation were convicted of disobedience but acquitted of embezzlement.
Serret has made herself available to the Supreme Court to regularize her rebellious procedural situation.
