Children sometimes get away with the force of screaming, being a nuisance or insolent. I do not see a simpler simile to describe the mood of many pro-independentist Catalans: when independence wins – for them almost always – it is tiresome, and one is tempted to give up and approve everything they say, all in order not having to stand them.
Some Catalans consider it epic, historical or biblical perseverance. To the rest, we consider they exhaust the whole country out of boredom.
Welcome to the club: pro- independentists now believe in the judiciary and the EU!
I celebrate very much that independentists have become defenders of justice with capital letters. Welcome to the club. You will not regret it: under the law you will live more calmly.
And now that they believe in the courts and justice, just to mention a detail: it is not acceptable to consider the system good when it benefits you and denigrating it when it takes away your reason.
The same goes for the European Union. In recent months it has been heavily criticized by the propaganda apparatus of the independentist procés (it is enough to review interviews and articles by Puigdemont), sometimes with indecent excuses such as the rescue of immigrants in the Mediterranean, an independentist hit last summer.
Welcome also to the club of the values of the EU – which now force Spain – and another reminder: do not confuse winning an episode and think one has open bar in Brussels, whose basic position is unalterable: dialogue within the respect for laws and the Spanish Constitution.
As always, the majority of Catalans – who do not vote for independence parties and I do not base myself on surveys – attended another pro-independence party that confuses a reversal of Spanish justice – it was the Supreme Court itself that requested an opinion from the European Court of Luxembourg – with a blank check about their illusions.
It is a pity that they did not have this enthusiasm for the laws, justice and the Spanish and European legal system in 2017, because if they did today there would be no condemnations nor we would all suffer from such a wasteful situation.
Neither autonomy nor republic. Neither governance nor direction. And, meanwhile, the economic disadvantage with respect to Madrid increases month by month …
Will we now have a republican beach bar in Perpignan? One more cardboard decoration. The triumph, by the way, of the wise-ass over the upright, prize to Puigdemont, derision to Junqueras, whose figure awakens respect even among those who would never vote for him.
How many victories for nothing!
