Socialists believe that it is necessary to seek social “re-union”
The PSC is committed to the dialogue table between the Government and the Generalitat, but wants, in parallel, a forum for dialogue to be opened between the Catalan parties that serves for the “re-union” within the community.
Once Pere Aragonès has taken office, the Socialists believe that the time has come to ask that this dialogue “Catalunya ‘endins'” (Inside Catalonia) take shape. “It is necessary to determine which is the common denominator among all Catalans, not only the pro-independence side”, summarized the PSC spokesperson in Parliament, Alícia Romero.
The idea of the Socialists, which candidate Salvador Illa did not tire of repeating during the campaign, is that a decade of ‘procés’ has damaged relations between Catalans, and that the time has come to repair that circumstance.
“It is necessary more than ever to start up, to seek a re-union between Catalans, especially now that there is a Government of Spain that is receptive to dialogue”, said Romero. As for which formations should be present, she stated that “everyone would have to make the effort” to sit at that table, because it is “what the citizenship is asking for”.
Dialogue between governments, the sooner the better
But, at the same time, the PSC supports the resumption of dialogue between the Government and the Generalitat as soon as possible. “The dialogue table must be set up now. We already have a ‘president’, so the sooner the better”, said the Socialist spokesperson, who recalled that both the Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, and Aragonès have expressed their willingness to reactivate that forum.
In addition, Romero has said that the agreements made at the dialogue table should represent “what the majority of Catalans want, and not just a few”, in reference to the pro-independence sector. The President of the Generalitat has already said that he seeks to obtain with the Spanish Government an agreement regarding the self-determination of Catalonia and the amnesty of the imprisoned politicians.
