They demand respect for diversity, the rule of law and representative democracy in Catalonia. "Many Catalans are opposed to the views of the current Catalan government"

About 100 people gathered this afternoon on Jean Reyplein in the European district of Brussels to speak out against the struggle for independence in Catalonia.  They demand respect for diversity, the rule of law and representative democracy in Catalonia.  “Many Catalans are opposed to the views of the current Catalan government, which advocates Catalonia’s independence while a majority of the population has never been for independence,” said Juan Prat Y Coll, a former Spanish ambassador to several European countries.

The Brussels event was organized by the Societat Civil Catalana, a social organization that opposes a separation from Catalonia.  A day after the proponents of independence had taken to the streets in Barcelona, this movement also launched a major march in the Catalan capital today.  The organizers spoke of 400,000 participants, the police kept it at 80,000.  Yesterday, the police services recorded 350,000 demonstrators.
