Former ETA terrorist band José Antonio Urrutikoetxea, aka ‘Josu Ternera’, who is in France waiting to know if he will be handed over to Spain to answer for pending cases at the National Court, has signed Gonzalo Boye as a lawyer.
According to legal source informations to Europa Press, the lawyer has assumed the defense of the ETA in relation to the case in which he is prosecuted along with four other former leaders of the terrorist organization for a crime against humanity.
France must decide on March 4 if it extradites the Etarra to Spain
The French justice will decide on March 4 if he extradites ‘Ternera’. The veteran Etarra leader, 69, was arrested on May 16, after almost 17 years of hiding, in the town of Sallanches, in the French Alps, and since then he has been imprisoned in Paris.
At the moment, Boye, who is also a lawyer of former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and his successor, Quim Torra, will only represent ‘Josu Ternera’ in this case, according to the sources consulted.
However, the former head of ETA is claimed by the National Court in relation to other crimes, such as the attack on the Zaragoza barracks in 1987 and the murder of Michelin director Luis María Hergueta in 1980. He is also prosecuted for financing of ETA through ‘herriko tabernas’.
Gonzalo Boye was sentenced in 1996 to 14 years and 8 months in jail for the kidnapping in 1988 of businessman Emiliano Revilla by ETA, specifically as the author responsible for a crime of illegal detention. He turned six.
Recently, the National Court ordered to seize Boye and conduct a patrimonial investigation by not having faced the compensation imposed by the court for that conviction, a joint civil liability with the other defendants of 200 million pesetas (1.2 million euros ).
