The representatives of the PSOE, PP, Cs and Más Madrid call for closer ties between both cities to combat nationalism
The deputy spokesperson for the PSOE in the Madrid Assembly, Juan Lobato, and the councilor for Más Madrid in the capital city council, Marta Higueras, defended this Saturday to promote collaboration between Madrid and Barcelona.
On the other hand, the deputy spokesman of the PP in Congress, Mario Garcés, and the deputy secretary general of Cs, Edmundo Bal, have criticized nationalism and the division it generates, they have said in the debate Do they understand in Madrid what is happening in Catalonia ? from the summer school of Catalan Civil Society (SCC).
Against the ‘procés’
Bal has said that Madrid experienced the beginning of the independence process somewhat behind its back: “But do not think that from Madrid we left you alone, because we suffered, because you suffered,” he said. In addition, he has predicted that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will make any concession to the independentistas to stay in power, according to him.
Garcés has stressed that his link with Catalonia has been permanent and he has warned that he will not allow this link to be “stolen” from him. After this he has warned that he is not willing to continue hearing the speech that nationalism grew while the PP ruled.
Find junction points
Higueras has opted to promote cooperation between Madrid and Barcelona. “It could be an experiment of collaboration, of looking for common projects that help citizens to feel more united,” she has proposed.
Lobato has remarked that the challenge is to know how this involvement can be promoted and “see the potential of an alliance” that he believes would be unstoppable in areas such as the economy, culture, tourism and commerce.
