The President of the Generalitat has opened the noon news with a speech of more than thirteen minutes that Ramon Pellicer has presented as an ‘appearance’
The Union of Journalists of Catalonia on TV3 asks if “Torra wants to eliminate the Presenters of News? 15 minutes of live broadcast on the Noon News. Stop political meetings of the Government on public television in times of pandemic”. The Union complains in a message posted on twitter a few hours after the President of the Generalitat opened the Noon Television Newscast with a 13’22 “intervention, which the presenter, Ramon Pellicer, introduced as an” appearance “by Quim Torra from the Palau de la Generalitat. The Journalist Union’s tweet is accompanied by the @ProuTorraTV3virus tag (@StopTorraTV3virus)
The Noon News began with Pellicer’s headline reading and then gave way to Quim Torra, who was waiting to be notified that he could start speaking. In his speech he explained the arguments he used in a conference that the President of the government, Pedro Sánchez, had earlier with the presidents of the different autonomous communities, and ended by saying “Thank you all from Canonges (seat of the government of Catalonia)”. Pellicer has continued to present the news. Neither he nor, of course, any other journalist has asked the president questions.
The Catalan TV3 Journalist Union has posted two more comments on this subject on its twitter profile. It says: “It is very wrong to mix government information and institutional statements at the beginning of the News. If there are direct statements of the President he should do them at another time, but not within the News and using public TV3 news, and without the interview format that belongs to a newscast “. And on the other: “The influence of Catalan Government on programming and certain information is already noticeable enough so that the minimum of professional forms is not kept.”
Representatives of the trade union section of CCOO on Catalan public TV3 also criticized the political control they consider is exercised by the Government of the Generalitat over Catalan public television this Saturday. “It is unbearable that @tv3cat’s programming is done from @government. Many workers are risking their health as an essential service @CCMA_cat. ” The TV3 Professional Committee has not issued a statement regarding the denunciation of the two unions.
