Last Friday, TV3 promoted the summer school of the Societat d’Estudis Militars (SEM) in the FAQs program . It did it through Quico Sallés , one of his permanent collaborators. This journalist, in the final part of the program, appeared dressed in military clothing and explained that he did so because he wanted to talk about some summer camps. He defined them as “very fun summer camps, where you learn a lot of things and which also break up topics.” He was referring to that summer school of the Societat d’Estudis Militars, which Sallés defined as “the great Catalan and geostrategic think tank of Catalonia.”
The summer school was held between June 18 and 21 with the aim of “seeking to live an experience as similar to that of military professionals”, as explained on the SEM website. It’s activities included physical tests that, according to Sallés, allowed “that you could train as a member of a special command of the Navy Seals.” He referred to them as the equivalent of “the weeks of hell” carried out by some armies, while on a large screen of FAQsImages were projected of people crawling through the forest or sitting on the ground hugging in single file while monitors threw buckets of water at them. The journalist stated that it was the second edition of this military summer school and that “if the first was a success, this has been a success.” He stressed that the 60 seats that it consisted of had been exhausted and that it is a “must see” event, to the next edition of which he invited the presenter, Cristina Puig , who did not show much interest in signing up for it.
On its website, the Societat d’Estudis Militars explains that «it was born in autumn 2014, to continue the task initiated by the Assemblea National Catalana-ANC’s Sectorial Defense Assembly, which, as a result of the media coverage in Spanish nationalist media ( El País , ABC , the reason ) of the publication of the document Dimensionament de les Forces de Defensa de Catalunya i la Força Naval, had to cease the activity that it carries out ». Its function is “to generate knowledge on defense policy at the service of the Catalan national interest.” «We intend to continue working towards the achievement of a fundamental State structure for the safeguarding of life, liberty, and the well-being of citizens, as is a defense policy comparable to that of neighboring states, for the future independent Catalonia, and beyond, continue to serve this country of ours “, reads the portal.
The historian and public relations Pol Molas chairs this entity and the agricultural technical engineer Daniel Soler is its secretary. Curiously, Soler defines himself in his Twitter profile as a “pacifist and antimilitarist”, apart from ensuring that “the normal thing is to want to be a normal country.” Both participated in the writing of the collective book Politics of defense and own state , published in 2017, where it was stated that “all freedom is illusory when you do not have the means to defend it.” Also on this team were, among others, Jaume Clotet , advisor to the Barcelona Provincial Council, Toni Florido , president of the Catalan Association of Friends of Israel, Marc Gafarot, who worked in the international relations team of Artur Mas , Pol Serrano , senior technician in the administration of the Generalitat and Joaquim Dorca , general director of marketing of Devir, a company that sponsors the programs of Jair Domínguez and Peyu in Catalunya.
