Pedro Sánchez and Pere Aragonès
The President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has demanded that Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to establish the date of the second bilateral meeting of the dialogue table so as not to “delay” the negotiation process. This is how Aragonès responded to the words of Sánchez, who avoided setting a day on the calendar and said to “prioritize” the fight against the pandemic, according to El Periódico through Efe.
Sánchez’s statements have not convinced Aragonès. The president of the Generalitat does not consider that the battle against the coronavirus is “exclusive” with political negotiations, since the labor reform or the General State Budgets have been negotiated. For this reason, the Republican has urged the Socialist to “take risks” in the search for a “solution to the political conflict between Catalonia and the Spanish State.”
Pere Aragonès insists that the meeting between the two executives should be held at the beginning of the year. And it must be carried out, he says, with “concrete proposals on the table” and “agreements” that go along the lines of de-judicializing politics.
For the president of the Generalitat, the “unblocking of the political conflict” involves an independence referendum and “ending the repression.” Aragonès has also questioned that the Spanish government’s strategy can be based on “letting time pass without courageous proposals.”
