The Catalan police unions warn that they are in the edge of an “acceptable limit" to guarantee "social peace”. The most representative unions of the Mossos d'Esquadra body have demanded this Saturday an "urgent meeting" with Interior regional minister Miquel Sàmper, after four nights of riots, in which there have been criticisms of JxCat, ERC, and the CUP, to the police action in full negotiations to form Govern. "The spirits within our group are very tense and the union organizations of the body that, in short, we are the ones that always watch over social peace, we are already at the acceptable limit of being able to guarantee this peace," reads the statement this Saturday seconded by SAP-FEPOL -the majority-, USPAC, SICME, SPC, SME and SEIME, among others.

The most representative unions of the Mossos d’Esquadra body have demanded this Saturday an “urgent meeting” with Interior regional minister Miquel Sàmper, after four nights of riots, in which there have been criticisms of JxCat, ERC, and the CUP, to the police action in full negotiations to form Govern.

“The spirits within our group are very tense and the union organizations of the body that, in short, we are the ones that always watch over social peace, we are already at the acceptable limit of being able to guarantee this peace,” reads the statement this Saturday seconded by SAP-FEPOL -the majority-, USPAC, SICME, SPC, SME and SEIME, among others.

Violent attacks and criticism

The agents maintain that the “serious situation”, not only due to public disorders, but also due to criticism from the CUP and JxCat, who have questioned their actions during the riots, have brought them to an untenable point. If first it was the anti-system candidate, Dolors Sabater, who once again questioned the public order model due to the police action in the altercations, JxCat joined it, through a statement – after meeting with the formation of the pro-independence left -, warned that “the mistakes made” by “some agents of the Mobile Brigade (BRIMO)” of the Mossos d’Esquadra “cannot go unpunished” and valued “critically” the “situations of violence” experienced in the streets by the imprisonment of Hasél.

There’s still more. This demonstration was joined by that of Sàmper himself, who on Thursday raised the “review” of the police model in Catalonia, due to its performance during the riots, which now total four consecutive days after the arrest and imprisonment of the Lleida rapper. All this, in full negotiations to form a Government. For this reason, questioned, and after warning of the lack of means and personnel to dissolve the riots, the unions stand up and demand to meet with the political chief of the Mossos.

Attempt to set fire to a police van

During all the days of protest, the agents have suffered attacks. Throwing of bottles, cobblestones and stones, and even direct attacks on trucks. This happened last Tuesday in the surroundings of Plaza Urquinaona, where according to sources from the body, “there was a premeditated attack” against a vehicle of the Mobile Brigade (BRIMO). Several individuals lowered the gate and “threw papers with gasoline inside.”

An attack to try to set the vehicle on fire, for which those affected requested reinforcements – as seen in the first video – from their colleagues from the Regional Areas of Operational Resources (ARRO). Finally, it did not reach more. But this is only one of the incidents, the policemen lament, whom they have had to face in recent days. Faced with this “serious situation”, they summon Sàmper to receive them as soon as possible. Even this weekend, if his schedule allows.
