The organization promises that it will “tear down the walls” that independence has built in recent years and demands that they begin with the dialogue with the other half of Catalonia
Societat Civil Catalana has managed to fill the center of Barcelona this Sunday in a mass protest against the “toxic rattle” of the process, as indicated in the manifesto that has been read in several languages as a conclusion of the act. The head of demonstration had problems to reach Plaza Cataluña because the huge amount of people who had concentrated there to wait for them.
The document ensures that Catalans “do not want or need new borders” and promises to “tear down all the walls” that the independentists have built in the last decade. It has been the vice president of Societat Civil, Álex Ramos, who has initiated the act by recalling the criticisms of Josep Tarradellas against Jordi Pujol for the plan that began in the 80s and that has led to the current secessionist movement.
Elections in Catalonia
Catalan Civil Society has called to end the “procés, division and Torra”. The president of the Generalitat has been asked to “put the ballot box”, paraphrasing one of the best known proclamations of the former president of the Parliament today in prison, Carme Forcadell. “If you do not know or do not want to govern for all Catalans, if you do not know how to get out of the vine where you have put us” he said, “if you prefer to be an activist instead of an institutional representative”, another electoral advance in Catalonia is better, the entity reflects. Its president, Fernando Sánchez Costa, points out that new elections must be called “immediately”.
As for the dialogue demanded by the Catalan president to the acting Government of Pedro Sánchez, it is made clear that “before talking with Madrid, let’s talk with the Catalan social majority, talk with us”. Torra is required to also listen to non pro-independentist Catalans and put five “aspirations” on the table.
New electoral law
Societat Civil Catalana recovers an old claim to start the list of demands, the reform of the Catalan electoral law so that small and rural populations, where pro-independentist are the majority, have a more weighted weight. It is also considered essential to guarantee the “neutrality of public spaces, administrations and institutions”, in addition to guaranteeing the “linguistic normalization of Spanish”. “The one that is normal in the street must be normal in the institutions and in the school”, they sentence.
The “depoliticization of the Mossos and the media” is another of the priorities of Catalan Civil Society, as well as to initiate a “process audit” to know “how much money from our pockets have been going to boil the pot of a project of illegal rupture ”.
Message for the rest of Spain
“Self-determination is self-mutilation,” the organization maintains in the message released this Sunday, “the process dwarfs us, narrows us and makes us poorer.” In addition, it calls on the rest of Spain to “not leave alone” non-independentist Catalan citizens. Even a warning is issued to all political parties – PP, Cs and PSOE have been present until the end of the protest – “we will not accept a mere classical agreement between elites.”
“Let us all build an exciting project for the future, a national story that will inspire us all again,” said the entity.
