After pocketing the Diada of September 11 – Catalonia’s festiivity – in recent years, some sectors of the independence movement are beginning to make calculations to go one step further. From demonstrations in favor of the Govern of the Generalitat of the day, and the usual nationalist performances led by the ANC and Òmnium, they have now moved to pose a new idea: to “give fear” to the dissenters.
This was expressed this Thursday by Liz Castro, former leader of the ANC, who in 2015 disputed –and lost – the presidency of this independence association to Jordi Sànchez. The writer from the USA, who was coordinator of the international advocacy commission of the ANC, has echoed the open letter of one of its partners in the digital news outlet susidized by the Generalitat Vilaweb. A letter which, in essence, claims to surround all the decision and strategic centers of Catalonia for the next 11-S.
“In other words, that this next 11-September we do not parade to watch ourselves once again or hear our own same mottos of always, nor do we prepare a festival, but instead we do cause horror. Much horror”.
“In other words, that this next 11-September we do not parade to watch ourselves once again or hear our own same slogans of always, nor do we stage a party, but instead we do cause fear. A lot of fear”, Liz Castro said Thursday in her Twitter profile, reproducing the words of the letter written by the writer Xavier Díez, also attaching the link to his text.
Siege at 50 strategic points
The content of the full letter has no waste. After recognizing that he is a not very much active member of the ANC, Díez proposes a “different” manifestation format for the next Diada.
“It would be about peacefully surrounding, with the same spirit of recent years, 50 strategic points of the country”. And among them includes “border points”, the prisons where politicians are in preventive detention because of the procés, Catalan institutions (Parliament, Generalitat, municipalities …), airports, train stations, ports, La Caixa” and other companies that gave in to the pressures of the monarchy “(sic), as well as barracks “and everything which acts as vital points that imply controlling the territory”. To carry out his plan, he proposes to send groups of a rough 20,000 pro-independence protesters to each of those places.
