In Catalonia not only do we have a glut of historic days, but we have also ended up in indigestion of historic conferences. It is enough to review the last ten years to realize that politicians have wanted to send messages by bringing together the elite of Catalan society to solemnize a step forward that has often become a leap into the void. For this reason, it is appreciated that Pere Aragonès has brought together four hundred personalities in the oval room of the MNAC to take stock of the first year of his government, with the motto “Avancem” (to move along), which compromised what was fair. Where are we going?
The pro-independence chroniclers considered that his speech had been too autonomist and non-sovereign supporters expressed their displeasure because he spoke more about the unity of the independence movement than about the unity of the country. Where his words too predictable? Personally, I am grateful that things in Catalonia are beginning to be so. The political pragmatism of Aragonès is as predictable as the rhetorical disobedience of Laura Borràs. With the advantage that the president of the Generalitat expresses it in a museum and the president of the Parliament expresses it in the middle of a demonstration cutting Meridiana avenue.

Aragonès asked the independence movement to stop looking at each other sideways, which is what two do when they distrust the other, and he asked the sanchismo to at least look at him, because it would seem that they have stopped paying attention to them due to exhaustion. The most interesting thing was the appeal to his will to govern the whole of Catalonia, “whatever they are, wherever they come from, speak the language they speak”. And he even appreciated the presence in the room of those who did not think like him, beginning with the leader of the opposition, Salvador Illa.
We must thank the President of the Generalitat for his willingness to value the institution he represents. Josep Pla wrote that “the first drama of the Catalan is that he is afraid of being himself, but he still has another more serious one: the Catalan cannot stop being what he is”. Aragonès tries to go through this bipolarity, although it is not easy. He needs to break the government blockade in order to put a better ending to the next speech.
