Do you know what it means to write in ‘La Vanguardia’? It is simple. This is the dream of any journalist who values and appreciates plurality. This is undoubtedly the written medium that has best adapted to the digital world, to the new and changing times. It is not an easy task, of course, but it has done it without complexes, with enthusiasm, looking forward and for everyone. Because that is the only way to build the future. It’s not worth spending the day complaining.
Victimhood is a lousy traveling companion in any order of life. Madrid knows it well. It has known how to take advantage of the cries of the independence movement to build just the opposite. And it has done it with an apparently simple recipe that some do not enter into their heads: it has changed the borders for openness. Outside absurd obstacles that make you uncomfortable and cause rejection. Madrid has eliminated taxes and has given facilities to anyone who is willing to invest, to believe in his dreams. Can you imagine the number of young Catalans with concerns who have opted for the capital city. Many have done so, fed up with the mono-theme, with the ideological fog that prevents them from seeing beyond their tiptoes. Enough of blaming Madrid for all ills.

Barcelona has to be the open and cosmopolitan city that Narcís Serra devised and Pasqual Maragall culminated with the 1992 Games. Do you remember? What a wonder, what a joy. It was an unforgettable time for those of us who were lucky enough to experience it up close. Barcelona became a city envied throughout the world because everyone felt comfortable in it. At that time nobody looked at you differently or you were cataloged by your way of thinking. Let’s recover the spirit of that Barcelona, my dear Barcelona.
Let’s not attack Madrid, let’s learn from it, from the good things about it. Here, from where I write and live, they don’t ask you where you’re from or where you’re going. No one singles out anyone because the different ones make Madrid live its day-to-day life with joy. React, Barcelona. React, Catalonia. Let’s take care of Catalan, ours, but without neglecting Spanish, everyone’s. No to confrontation and yes to coexistence. You have to learn from this newspaper, a respected Catalan newspaper in Madrid. ‘La Vanguardia’ shows us the way.
