The organization considers that the Generalitat has “violated fundamental and constitutional rights” due to these linguistic decisions Catalan Civil Society (SCC) charges against the Government for its language policy.
The organization has accused the regional executive of having turned Catalan “into a language of power and unpleasant imposition”.
This criticism comes after the language policy implemented in recent years by post-convergent governments and the current ERC, led by Pere Aragonès. “The linguistic fines, the accusations to teachers who do not teach in Catalan or businesses that do not label or communicate in Catalan”, are some of the interventions for which SCC blames the Government.
“Control Catalan inside and outside the classroom”
The organization chaired by Fernando Sánchez Costa has charged against the actions promoted by the pro-independence parties in the Government. “The creation of school committees to control Catalan inside and outside the classroom, has led to the Catalan language being increasingly seen as an inquisitorial language, the result of nationalist obsession, which reminds us of past times of oppression and social control ”, has asserted SCC. These decisions, according to Civil Society, come to “violate fundamental and constitutional rights” of many people and, even, of “minors”. The organization has added that they reserve the possibility of taking legal action against the promoters of these actions.
