We are going through a political moment of fictitious peace. I am not saying that it is false but it is feigned for the needs of the script. The objective of Pedro Sánchez was that, and he succeeds in the absence of the PP which does not find the measure to distance itself from Vox without being harmed. Pablo Casado continues running in the rain in search of drops of water to fill his canteen while he loses the opportunity offered by pardons. The PSOE, to its own, continues to draw an Iberian peace as is not remembered.
The ‘procés’ as understood in 2017 is settled; not the independence movement
We are a country with eight educational laws agreed unanimously. It goes in the DNA. So to find a time of maximum harmony between the Catalan Government and the Spanish Government we should go back to the agreement of the Majestic of Aznar, which worked, or to the “I will approve the Statute that comes out of the Parliament” of Zapatero, which ended in disaster.
The political peace of 2020 surpasses the previous two. There has never been an agreement by so many Spanish institutions with an idea as delicate as that of pardons. From businessmen to the Church, coinciding in a thesis that takes Spain out of this nonsense caused by the unconsciousness of some and the clumsiness of others.
The independence movement is also out of order. Its two most representative parties, which showed high communication skills, are now lacking. The images offered by TV3 of the arrival of the pardoned, JxCat bench, at the House of the Republic in Waterloo were explanatory.
They had to remove a chain on the outer wall. No one was waiting for them at the door. Quite the contrary. They were not received by Puigdemont, busy with other Catalans visiting the house, but Lluís Puig. In fact, they needed to ring the bell twice. Later photos did not improve this situation of apparent contempt.
The same happened on Wednesday in the meeting between Junqueras and Puigdemont. It was not a surprise. But that it is in the argument of recent years is not without significance.
From the most conservative sectors, any contact between pro-independence leaders is suspicious. It is understood that they continue to work on how to destabilize the rule of law. But for that to be feasible, cooperation and empathy are required that currently do not exist. In other words, the process as understood in 2017 is finished. Not the independence movement.
The point of view of President Aragonès is to stabilize the gears of the Generalitat, work on specific things and sell them well communicatively. For that he has Junqueras, who has already been given a car to drive around Catalonia.
And he also needs that “pax ibérica” in which his opponent Salvador Illa works, but without going overboard. Mainly because he wants to be the next president of the Generalitat. Not easy. The mess will be daily. The next, that Risk Fund (FCRCAT) to save the heritage of those who played with fire. The PSC has not yet made a decision. And whatever it is, it will be difficult to defend.
