When I look at Barcelona, I understand better why only six of the 27 EU states are ruled by the left: a very interesting ideology and very interested in changing our lives, whether you like it or not. A certain left, well, a pain.
I could go to live in Madrid, of course, whose atmosphere is more tolerant, but I don’t feel like it: if Barcelona was a horny city, well-traveled and very diverse, there is no reason to resign. The Barcelona theater billboard offers two works dedicated to Rusiñol and Ocaña, two characters who today would live bitterly with so much restriction and healthy life. And the Serrat record, Mediterranean, turns 50, uncorrupted, the great sea in front of the mountains and its epic.
Barcelona suffers from that left that wants to change your life and your city, whether you like it or not.
Barcelona is a museum of dirigisme: from restrictions to heaven. On its beaches they no longer allow smoking – instead of fining anyone who throws a cigarette butt – in its bullrings you can organize everything except a bullfight, the Eixample exhibits some of the most ugly pictures in Europe and a distribution of goods Calcutta style and if you want to go out on the Diagonal, you can already arm yourself with patience because it is a stop and starts in the only two lanes while the two limited to public transport are empty, a full-fledged mess.
And if you stay up late, take it for granted that there is no stricter city in Spain that complies with all regulations, ordinances, and existing schedules. Take a taxi to Gràcia on a Sunday, closed to traffic (I walk if I feel like it). In some controls they let pass, in others they do not. The severity is one-sided, because last Sunday at 9:15 p.m. – the latest time, 9:00 p.m. – the fences that cut off traffic followed. Be prepared if you have a bar and close at night a quarter of an hour late …
And now to turn that of lowering the garbage into a far-fetched act – pilot test in Sant Andreu -, with chips in the bags and the figure of the “informant”, don’t miss it! People hired to instruct us like children and improve our relationship with garbage. They are going to make littering another concern!
On the contrary, collective freedom is untouchable. Much theory and little stepping on the street. This that a main road in Barcelona is cut every night by four irreducible cats, for more than 450 days, sounds like a joke before the authorities compromise because they lack determination, which they have left over to create problems where there were none.
