The urgent independence: we have a new enmity that, caused by those of Puigdemont, tries to question Aragonès' abilities to be a good 'president' according to the parameters of Junts.

For a few weeks, an unusual event has been taking place in Catalan politics: it is no longer enough to be an independentist, you have to be from the Junts if you want to aspire to the Olympus of famous independentists, immaculate and free of all suspicion. Apparently, being an ERC voter is not compatible with an idea of a Catalan republic, but rather with a collusion with perpetual autonomy. The slogan, one of the most absurd that I remember taking into account the history of the Republicans and the matrix of what is now Junts, has penetrated, well it has. We have a new enmity that, caused by those of Puigdemont, tries to question Aragonès’ abilities to be a good ‘president’ according to the parameters of Junts: a worthy ‘president’ is one capable of raising a DUI, implementing the long-awaited republic and start a confrontation with the State, that is, everything they have not done during Quim Torra’s term.

The excessive attack also has other layers related to the non-acceptance of a defeat. JuntsxCat has not won the elections and they cannot stand it, hence the main interest in the negotiations is not to lose their main treasure: control of the story. The important thing is not who should lead the Ministry of Health, but the strategic coordination body of the ‘procés’.

The independence of ERC from JuntsxCat, a definitive independence, is increasingly urgent. We are facing the most oppressive and unbalanced political relationship in recent times. The agreement between the CUP and ERC is perhaps just a warning, but it makes it clear that the priorities, at least on paper, are different. The agreement does not eliminate the legal aspiration for independence, but it does eliminate any possibility of hyperventilation in the short term.
