ERC and JxCat have positively valued their electoral results. ERC has highlighted the fact of having achieved first place among the pro-independence parties and they have made it clear that the next president of the Generalitat would be from their party.
For its part, JxCat also celebrated having obtained 32 deputies – only one less than the Republicans – as well as that the pro-independence movement, for the first time, has exceeded 50% of the votes. Puigdemont’s party now sees independence closer.
However, the two parties have lost many votes in these elections compared to 2017, when between both parties added nearly two million votes. This time, however, they have remained at just over a million votes adding the two formations, although the turnout has been lower.
In this way, Republicans have seen almost a third of their electorate stop voting for them. If in 2017 ERC had 935,861 votes, this time it has remained with 603,607, which is 332,000 fewer votes.
Even higher has been the drop in votes from JxCat, which in 2017 obtained 948,233 votes. However, now it has remained at 568,002, which is more than 380,000 fewer votes than in previous elections. In total, between the two formations they have lost 712,231 votes.
The CUP, despite obtaining a good result and going from 4 to 9 seats, has also lost votes compared to 2017. The ‘cupaires’ go from 195,246 votes to 189,087 today.
