Non-partisan and pluralist communication and debate platform

One of the most serious consequences of the pro-independentist process is that lying has been normalized. They lie at all hours. Through all the conduits. Even officially. Openly, openly, without regrets. How can they lie so coldly? The process has been a succession of post-truths in the understanding that a post-truth is a lie. The lie has been normalized. Not only among some of the independence leaders but also among the media … public and private! It is the degradation of Catalan public television itself. All of this reflects not only the moral corruption of our rulers but also of Catalan society itself. It has hit rock bottom. It is the systematic lie. They have believed their own lies. It is the worst thing that can happen to a society. This and the lack of reaction.

One of the most serious consequences of the process is that lying has been normalized. They lie at all hours. Through all the conduits. Even officially.

Deliberate, shameless, expressly.

Openly, openly, without regrets.

They don’t even mind doing it from the Palau de la Generalitat itself.

The Government spokeswoman, Meritxell Budó, affirmed on Tuesday that the decision to postpone the elections had been taken “unanimously by all the parliamentary groups.”

But it was a lie!

The PSC was against it. The PPC, too. And even PDECAT questioned delaying them until May.

The PSC spokeswoman amended the page the next day in the Parliament. “What was done last week – Eva Granados affirmed – was not a unanimous agreement.”

And the president of the PPC, Alejandro Fernández, finished went straight to the point: “What really happened at the party table, because many falsehoods have been said, is that nothing was voted. They brought us a decision made ”.

In fact, this Thursday the regional minister subtly changed the term “unanimity” to the expression “majority of parties” during the institutional statement after the conviction of the Foreign Minister, Bernat Solé, for “serious disobedience.”

How can they lie so coldly?

Is it incompetence? Unconsciousness? Irresponsibility? Bad faith?

Very simple: they have gotten used to lying.

They have not stopped lying since the beginning of the process: the world is watching us, this is democracy, it will be a win-win, the banks will not leave, we will keep the euro, the EU will welcome us with open arms.

The process has been a succession of post-truths in the understanding that a post-truth is a lie.

The lie has been normalized.

Not only among some of the independence leaders but also among the media … public and private!

But even the Catalan TV3 news presenters lie when they use the expression “political prisoners” or “exiles.”

The presenter Toni Cruanyes has done it again on the TN night this Thursday. “The elections will be on February 14 and not on May 30, as all the political forces had agreed to, except the PSC,” he stated bluntly.

Like the day he assured that the Catalan bishops were in favor of the referendum or that they had arrested the mayor of Berga for putting the stellate on the facade of the town hall. It was not true: the Mossos had detained her because when the judge summoned her to testify, she did not go. And not once but twice.

Walter Cronkite would have beaten them off. It is the degradation of Catalan public television itself.

It is the systematic lie: The same Government spokesperson has not stopped saying in recent weeks that Torra was convicted of “defending freedom of expression.” How many times have I heard him say it at a press conference!

Like when they said that the Jordis had been arrested “for demonstrating.” I will not go into whether the sentence is fair or unfair here, but it is clear that they were not convicted only for exercising the right to protest.

All of this reflects not only the moral corruption of our rulers but also of Catalan society itself. It has hit rock bottom.

How much we have been swallowing without questioning it!

I am going to give you one last example. On Thursday night, on the networks, I came across the profile “Foreign Friends of Catalonia”.

They are defined -in Catalan and English- as “Ambaixadors que parlen de Catalunya arreu del món / Ambassadors for Catalonia from around the world!”.

I do not even know if it is a paraofficial body, receives grants or is simply an individual. However, they posted a tweet in which they said that the king emeritus was “on the run” and instead Puigdemont was an “exile.”

I am not going to come out at this point in defense of King Juan Carlos.

And I understand that pushing a former head of state is a brownie.

But even I – so little inclined until now to interact in the networks – I had to clarify that technically the king emeritus is not a fugitive. He is not in search and capture. In fact, he is not even officially charged.

Puigdemont is on the run.

Imagine the bad reputation that we Catalans are going to get in the world.

Although if TV3 does the same – I thought – how will a twitter user not say it later.

They have believed their own lies. It is the worst thing that can happen to a society. This and the lack of reaction.
