October has been a month of shocks. First, the story of the 10,000 Russian soldiers that Víctor Terradellas – former head of International Relations of Convergència – had practically mastered to prop up, when the moment came (which did not come), the independence of Catalonia. Later, Eduard Pujol, a former spokesperson for JuntsXCatalunya and an alleged sexual harasser, exonerated himself through a video of his alleged criminal activities. The self-exculpatory document was televised to the TV3 News at noon and night and riveted by channel Más 324. With this panorama, it is not surprising that this October no one realized that on the 23rd it was a year since the unanimous approval by Parliament of the law to return to the qualified majorities in the election of the government of the Catalan Audiovisual Corporation (CCMA): TV3 and Catalunya Radio. If the pandemic allows it, there are four months until the Catalan electoral call, but there is no desire or rush to democratize the Catalan public media. The political parties, so unanimous when approving the law, do not agree to deactivate this magnificent propaganda loudspeaker that the Catalan Government has turned TV3 into. The pro-independence majority is already satisfied – there are always nuances – with the current operation of the public media. And the opposition appears to have resigned from its role. Ciudadanos believes that the CCMA has no solution and that it would be better partially privatize it with a budget cut by 50%. The PSC sees reasonable to wait for the new elections and majorities. And the Comuns, PP and CUP, for various reasons, seem resigned to wait.
While the future arrives, the present is as it is. And in programs like Tot es mou – which as it is not informative, does not pass the analysis of the Audiovisual Council – a few days ago we could hear questions of journalistic substance such as that of the regional Minister of Justice, Ester Capella: “You would like to approve many measures against evictions, but you do not have powers, right? ” Minutes aside, one of the recent highlights has been the information provided by the News about the Voloh case, which at first revolved around the Russian reverie. Until last Wednesday, and thanks to a parliamentary chronicle on the control session, the news reports did not mention the alleged businesses that both Xavier Vendrell, former ERC adviser, and David Madí, former Artur Mas adviser, intended to carry out the shadow of the “revolution from below”.
On the public channel, of course, the conversations between Madí and Pilar Rahola about the alleged control that the ERC “Stalinists” -according to the journalist- have over TV3 have not surfaced. The deficient investigation of the case, full of gaps and nonsense and led by Daniel Baena, lieutenant colonel and head of the judicial unit of the Civil Guard in Catalonia, has contributed. The script served by Baena – without conclusive evidence and with more stomach than brain – has led to the release of all those arrested and has constituted a fundamental contribution to the triumph of the book “Spain persecutes us.”
Eight programs on the process, purchased from Mediapro for around 800,000 euros, are scheduled to be broadcast. The TV3 grid will be altered. The documentaries will arrive, if the planned plans are followed, in double batches for four consecutive Tuesdays. The CCMA has already bought three reports from Jaume Roures and Tatxo Benet’s production company on the milestones of the process that were broadcast in January, June and December 2018. They were not commissioned. The director of TV3, Vicent Sanchis, saw them already finished and found them so good that he bought them and broadcast them.
The grill is managed according to the taste of the director and his friends, so it is not surprising that they do not find indigestible dishes such as the corruption of the 3% case and the Pujol family.
