Britain’s constitutional time-bomb Brexit is already a political crisis. Sooner or later it will become a constitutional crisis, too

Democracy in the Mother of Parliaments has blossomed for over 300 years under an “unwritten” constitution. But a battle is looming between the next prime minister, who may well opt to leave the EU without a deal, and Parliament, which insists on one. It is unclear who should prevail­­—or even how to choose between them. Meanwhile Scotland is moving towards another push for independence, and Brexit could cast doubt on the legal basis of citizens’ rights.
