Luis García Montero: ‘Catalan is a strong language that is not in danger of extinction’.
Queen Letizia presided over a session on multilingualism with the directors of the Cervantes Institute from all over the world this Tuesday at Barcelona City Hall. Accompanied by the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, and the director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, the Queen acknowledged the work of the directors of the institution and encouraged them to continue with their ‘mission to promote and disseminate Spanish, Hispanic cultures and co-official languages’, according to EFE.
At the session, entitled ‘Facets of multilingualism’, Doña Letizia was also accompanied by the Secretary of State for Latin America and the Caribbean and Spanish in the World, Susana Sumelzo; the Government Delegate in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto Gómez; the President of Barcelona Provincial Council, Lluïsa Moret; the Secretary General of the Cervantes Institute, Carmen Noguero, and the leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa.
The last time a member of the royal family visited Barcelona’s city hall was on 19 August 2017, following the 17-A attacks, when King Felipe VI and Letizia herself visited.
