Non-partisan and pluralist communication and debate platform

Self-criticism and awareness of one's own mistakes, enjoying public scorn and the right of comrades to put you down as a donkey, all this - we are Mediterranean - seasoned with per-sonal vendettas, attacks of horns and the desire to steal the sentimental companion, because the revolution did not stop at bars.

The good – that is to say – Iósif Stalin, a great manipulator of photographs and eliminator of characters physically and in effigy, managed to convince the communist world that criticism and self-criticism as a method of revolutionary advance was the work of Lenin himself and that it is at the basis of Bolshevik doctrine and even of Marxist thought. In his 1924 book, The Foundations of Leninism, he made this clear, but later he wrote an eloquent article, ‘Against the vulgarisation of the slogan of self-criticism’.

From then on, every purge of the nomenklatura was preceded by sessions of self-criticism which were intended, according to Stalin himself, to bleed (and boy did they bleed!) and heal (sic) the ulcers that infected the revolutionary body.

One of the greatest characteristics of the ‘procés’ is that it has zero self-criticism.

Later, the great – that is also to say – Mao, the great leader of the Chinese communist revolution, perfected the use of self-criticism to the point of making it a central pillar of his cultural revolution. We old-timers here once knew Maoists here who used to meet in self-criticism covens that would make you laugh at alcoholics anonymous. Self-criticism and awareness of one’s own mistakes, enjoying public scorn and the right of comrades to put you down as a donkey, all this – we are Mediterranean – seasoned with personal vendettas, attacks of horns and the desire to steal the sentimental companion, because the revolution did not stop at bars.

In short, this is what happened, but now that the pendulum has swung, one of the greatest characteristics of the procés is that there is zero self-criticism. Nothing at all. Niet, comrade. No one here confesses or regrets. We did everything right against the savage repression of the state.

Oh, if only Mao would raise his head! Precisely he, who added to self-criticism the re-education through labour as a way of straightening consciences…
