"Today Spain faces a dilemma with a complex resolution. Either it repeats elections, with the risk that the political balances will be as fragile as they are now; or it makes a pact with a party that maintains the legitimacy of 1-O and that has not renounced and will not renounce unilateralism as a legitimate resource to assert its rights", said the fugitive on the same day that marks four years since the sentence of the procés that led to the imprisonment of the leaders who participated in the illegal referendum, except for some like him, Marta Rovira, Toni Comín and Lluís Puig who fled Spain.

The fugitive warns that the PSOE has a dilemma: “either it repeats elections, with the risk that the political balance will be as fragile as it is now; or it agrees with a party that maintains the legitimacy of 1-O and that has not renounced and will not renounce unilateralism”.

The fugitive ex-president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, is raising the spectre of a repeat election. The fugitive has insisted that his party will not renounce either the “legitimacy” of 1-O or unilateralism. Thus, he threatens the PSOE not to support the investiture if it does not accept these two conditions.

He said this on his Instagram account, where he recalled a fragment of the conference he gave on 5 September in Brussels, in which he explained the price that the socialist party had to pay in exchange for his votes.

“Today Spain faces a dilemma with a complex resolution. Either it repeats elections, with the risk that the political balances will be as fragile as they are now; or it makes a pact with a party that maintains the legitimacy of 1-O and that has not renounced and will not renounce unilateralism as a legitimate resource to assert its rights”, said the fugitive on the same day that marks four years since the sentence of the procés that led to the imprisonment of the leaders who participated in the illegal referendum, except for some like him, Marta Rovira, Toni Comín and Lluís Puig who fled Spain.

But Puigdemont does not leave no stone unturned. He has also published these words days before the start of the consultation of the chiringuito that governs from Brussels, the Consell de la República, in which its members will vote on whether or not to block Sánchez’s investiture.

The agreement is “far away”.

This new warning further strains relations with Junts at a key moment in the negotiations. Yesterday, the spokeswoman for the neo-convergents in the Congress of Deputies, Míriam Nogueras, insisted that their support for the Socialist is still “far off”. Above all, if his intentions with Catalonia are limited, she said, to “doing the same” as in the last four years. In this way, he scorned the pardons granted to the leaders of the procés and the reform of the Penal Code, agreed in the previous legislature with Esquerra Republicana.

Nogueras, who met with Pedro Sánchez as part of the round of contacts with the parliamentary groups, limited himself to handing him a transcript of the conference given by the fugitive in Brussels, when he warned that amnesty was a sine qua non condition to begin dialogue. The same one that Puigdemont recalls today.
