European Parliament decides to withdraw a photograph that extolled the illegal secessionist referendum of 1 October 2017

Toni Comín (Junts) charges against the European Parliament for removing a photo of the 1-O: “The ballot boxes only bother the demophobes”.

The image, exhibited in one of its rooms in an exhibition ‘sponsored’ by the post-Convergencia formation, exalted the illegal secessionist referendum of 2017.

The European Parliament decision to withdraw a photograph that extolled the illegal secessionist referendum of 1 October 2017 in an exhibition on its premises sponsored by the group of  Junts per Catalunya has outraged the MPs of the ultra-nationalist group. To the point that one of them, Toni Comín, has charged against the European Parliament for taking this measure after receiving several complaints, one of them coming from Ciudadanos (Cs).

“The ballot boxes only bother the demophobes, never the democrats”, said the man who was once health minister in the autonomous government of Carles Puigdemont, and who, like the latter, is on the run from justice in Belgium for the procès.

“The empty space that has been left is a good parallel of how the Spanish police forces stole with extreme violence all the ballot boxes they could from the 1-O referendum”, Comín added in a message on the social network X.

Image removed by the services of the European Parliament

Comín and Puigdemont will attend the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday afternoon. The photograph in question showed a ballot box from the day of the illegal secessionist referendum, and had not been part of the dossier of the exhibition that was presented to the administrative authorities of the European Parliament for authorisation.

As a result of the complaints about its exhibition, and thus being aware of its existence, the heads of the European Parliament on Monday called on Junts to remove the image, something that the ultra-nationalist group did not do, so it has been the Chamber’s own services who have proceeded to remove it. For the rest, the exhibition will last five days.
