The Minister of Justice, Pilar Llop, on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the General Court of the European Union (GC of the EU) to dismiss the lawsuit brought by former President of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont and former ministers Toni Comín and Clara Ponsatí. In statements to the media, Pilar Llop stated that “Puigdemont must present himself before the justice system, it is his obligation as a citizen”. According to the Minister of Justice, “Spain is a state governed by the rule of law” and “thanks to the actions of this government over the last five years, the law is being complied with in Catalonia”, unlike what happened when “there was a PP government”.
Pilar Llop recalled that the ruling “fully endorses” the European Parliament’s decision to remove their parliamentary immunity, and represents “unquestionable support for Spanish institutions, for Spanish justice and for the European Parliament”. The minister assured that in the last five years her government has “worked for coexistence in Catalonia” and “to restore bridges” always “within the framework of legality and respect for the rule of law”, because “Spain is a state governed by the rule of law”.
