Anna Gabriel: “The approval of a DUI (Unilateral Declaration of Independence) will not lead to independence”
The former deputy of CUP Anna Gabriel has stated this Wednesday in an interview in La Directa that the unilateral declaration of independence (DUI) will not make Catalonia independent “the next day”, and has criticized the “polarization” that exists regarding the strategies to follow. Gabriel has been embarrassed by the debates held by the independence movement, and she has considered that all options should be considered.
“Neither the dialogue table with the Spanish State will lead us to exercise the right to self-determination, nor the approval of the DUI in a parliament will lead us to be independent, nor is putting a new referendum on the table the ultimate solution”, said Anna Gabriel. In relation to the DUI, Gabriel has stated that it would not serve “to be independent the next day”, but that “at a certain moment it can be a tool to speed up again or increase the voltage of political tension”.
The former CUP deputy has not rejected the possibility of calling a new referendum, and has indicated that it could be done “if we saw that the conditions exist and that it is an instrument that the people are willing to return to make their own.” Regarding the discrepancies between parties, Gabriel has asked for “less personalism and more collective, less partisan strategies and more analysis of reality.” “We must be capable of much more than all this show that we are offering. It is embarrassing that we are having certain debates in the current context”, she has stated.
