The Minister for Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez
Prime Minister Sánchez affirms that the executive “scrupulously respects” the Human Rights Committee’s report
The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez (PSOE), has expressed the Spanish Government’s respect for the opinion of the United Nations Human Rights Committee, which considers that Spain violated the political rights of former MPs Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Josep Rull and Jordi Turull. In statements to the media, the minister assured that the central government “scrupulously respects all the decisions” of this UN body, and that it is willing to modify the legislation.
“The (central) government is always open to improving legislation to bring it into line with the standards of all the most advanced legislation in this regard and in this area”, Sánchez assured, insisting that the Spanish government is willing to “heed” the resolution. However, the minister pointed out that judicial decisions in Spain “are issued in accordance with the law”, and affirmed that “this government is committed to dialogue”.
“The only alternatives that exist are re-encounter and dialogue”, concluded Sánchez, who wanted to differentiate the central government from the previous government of Mariano Rajoy, and pointed out that the current government “has banished the attitude of confrontation that the PP exercised”.
