The latest barometer of CEO, the political opinion barometer of Catalonia, the Catalan CIS, has offered us a magnificent headline that went unnoticed among other no less substantial results. We look at the fact that the independence option has fallen to 38.8%, its lowest level since 2014, when perhaps there was another more surprising one: half of the 2,000 respondents do not know who the president of Catalonia is. In other words, they do not know the name of Pere Aragonès after almost a year in office.
Surely Aragonès has already taken note and that his spin doctors in the government Palace will be filling his public agenda to the brim. One is inclined to think that the invisibility of this president is due more to the identity fracture than to his own trajectory. Here I come by crossing another fact: despite the fact that he is not associated with the tenant of the government Palace, Aragonès is the second best valued political leader (although he fails with a grade of 4.9), only behind the president of the ERC, Oriol Junqueras.
The sum of the crisis of politics and ignorance opens the way for the mobsters who sell us paradise and the fanatics
The reading that should be done has to do with the fact that more and more people pay attention, those who pay attention, to the brand with which they identify and that leads them to ignore other circumstances such as who the candidate is, for example. In addition, Aragonès is outshone by Junqueras. Another question is what has happened to the great presidential tradition of the Catalan institutions that had always existed in Catalonia. The answer: the independence “process” factor. There is a Catalonia that has disconnected from the official Catalonia and from an autonomous power that has exhibited in recent years concerns that not everyone shares, which has accentuated the lack of interest in those who hold the positions and, worse, in the institution.
Beyond Aragonès and the complexity of Catalonia, the lack of knowledge about politics may be due to the parties, in their anxiety to neglect the people, and to the quality of the politicians. But not only. Also the cultural deficit of part of the population, which is worrying. Today ignorance has no justification, neither for access to training nor for the means available to inform oneself. The sum of the crisis of politics and ignorance opens the way for the mobsters who sell us paradise and the fanatics. Watch out.
