Quim Torra during the presentation of his book ‘Les hores incertes’ Gerard Artigas / ACN
Misfortunes accumulate in Europe, but the independence movement continues to doubt. Like Buridán’s donkey, it has been paralyzed between two options: persist in the process or agree with whoever is convenient to facilitate the management of Catalan government. One of the supporters of maintaining the fire of the confrontation is Quim Torra. All his disobedience was calculated to arouse effect among the faithful and, at the same time, to avoid personal injury. His banners have not placed him before the Supreme Court. They only cause him disqualification and fines, perfectly compensated by the succulent stipends that he receives from the public coffers as a disqualification prize. Interviewed on Catalunya Ràdio, he has criticized Puigdemont and Junqueras for having wasted October 1. He maintains that any president who wants independence “will end badly” and to prove it he sets himself as an example. He assumes that he will be disqualified again in the new trial that awaits him.One of the supporters of maintaining the fire of the confrontation is Quim Torra. Junqueras has spent years in prison, Puigdemont may never return home. But Torra lectures them, taking advantage of the promotion of a memoir written in his solemn office as former president, paid for with public money. Located in medieval Girona, the palace had already been restored, but had to undergo new public works to adapt it to the needs of the retaliated victim.
It will cost a lot to rebuild this country; we may not be on time
The history of art teaches us that mannerism is the fossilization for decorative purposes of a certain style. So great was the impact of Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo that, between 1530 and 1580, it was believed that painting could go no further. For this reason, reality ceased to interest the new artists, who dedicated themselves to imitating the style of their great predecessors in a false and artificial manner. The same phenomenon occurred in architecture and painting, until the Baroque arrived, with its very strong contrasts. The naturalness of the procés was exhausted. Now there is the processist mannerism, which, as those who live from it know, does not lead anywhere. The artificial imitation of the procés is a sweet and slow way of giving up.
The great pact for the language was hopeful news. It broke for the first time the blocks that have dwarfed the country; it allowed a transversal defense of the immersion; and recognized the Catalans who speak Spanish. It was a way of reweaving Catalan identity and rebuilding the lowest common denominator around the language. But mannerism still has a seductive capacity. It is still in a position to renew the embers of the clash and the division between Catalans. It will cost a lot to rebuild this country. We may not arrive on time. Buridan’s donkey was so thirsty and hungry that he hesitated between quenching himself in the bucket of water or appeasing himself with the pile of hay. He died of starvation. He was unable to decide if it was better to start drinking or start eating.
